Recipe Video Shot List Template
The overhead recipe format is nearly standardised: fixed camera above the board, hands only, one continuous surface. It works because every step reads clearly and nothing needs narration.
This list assumes that format. Lock the camera once and work through it.

The shot list
Setup
- 01Camera locked off directly overhead, board centred
- 02Clean surface, empty frame
- 03All ingredients in the frame, arranged
- 04Title card frame — empty space for text
Steps
Each step gets its own clip with a clean start and end so it can be trimmed to any length.
- 05Each ingredient added, one clip per step
- 06Chopping and prep, overhead
- 07Mixing or combining
- 08Pouring — always slow, always in frame
- 09Transferring to pan or dish
- 10Cooking stage, if visible from above
- 11Progress checkpoint at each stage
Finish
- 12Final dish in the frame, overhead
- 13Garnish added, close
- 14Break the format: one 45° hero of the finished dish
- 15Cut or serve, overhead
- 16The eat and reaction
- 17Empty plate at the end
Tips for this kind of shoot
- Keep the frame identical throughout. Any camera movement in an overhead recipe reads as a mistake.
- Clean the board between steps. Overhead is unforgiving of mess.
- Leave a clean second at the start and end of every clip so each step can be trimmed to the beat.
