Founder Story Video Shot List
A founder story is a single-character documentary. What makes it work is specificity — the actual kitchen table, the first prototype, the notebook — rather than a well-lit interview about vision.
This list is built to find those specifics.

The shot list

- 02Primary framing plus a second angle
- 03Listening and thinking beats
- 04Hands, close
- 05Long lens observational shot while they talk to someone else
Origin artefacts
Ask in advance what they still have. These objects carry more than any line of dialogue.

- 07Early notebooks, plans, or accounts
- 08Old photographs, filmed on the table
- 09The original location, if it still exists
- 10Anything kept for sentimental reasons
The work today
- 11Founder working, not performing
- 12Walking the floor, talking to the team
- 13The product being made or delivered
- 14The team without the founder in frame
- 15Scale — what it has become
Personal
- 16Founder outside work
- 17The commute, the door, the coffee
- 18A quiet moment alone
- 19Family or personal context, if they are willing
Tips for this kind of shoot
- Ask what they still have from the beginning. Physical artefacts are the difference between a story and a statement.
- Film them working before you film them talking. They will be more relaxed in the interview.
